Destiny 2 still on track for 2017 release (update)
Activision reassures investors and fans Today publisher Activision reaffirmed that the sequel to Destiny is still on track for a 2017 release. The news comes courtesy of a slide deck that accompanied a presentation made today to the company’s investors. “Full Destiny sequel in 2017 to broaden the franchise’s global reach,” reads the slide, “which along with follow-on content plans, sets the stage for growth. ” Developer Bungie has kept up a steady stream of updates for the game since its debut in 2014, including The Dark Below, House of Wolves, The Taken King and Rise of Iron.
A recent update, titled The Dawning, brought back competitive racing with new player-owned vehicles and tracks in December. That same month, the already large studio added another group — Vicarious Visions — to their team. The developer, who had previously worked on Activision’s Guitar Hero, Skylanders and Transformers series of games, has yet to make their role in the project clear. Update: In the closing question and answer period, a few more details were given.
The game will launch in the fall, Activision said, but would not specify which financial quarter that would be. It will have a “great cast of memorable, relatable characters” as well as a “cinematic storyline. ” It will also be more accessible for “someone who wants a great, more casual first-person experience” and will be going into more international markets than ever before.
